How to calculate consumption of electrical appliances?

Electrical consumption

Electrical appliances have become an integral part of our life. We can’t think our life without them. We have become dependent on them. The electricity consumption of these appliances form a major part of our household budget. We use them without knowing how much electricity they will consume. But now you can calculate yourself the daily or monthly consumption of your electrical appliances and also can save energy by suitably switching off them when not in use.

(Wattage x Hours used per day) ÷ 1000 = Daily Kilowatt Hour (kWh)

1 kWh = 1 unit of consumption

Suppose a 20 watt CFL bulb is kept on for 8 hours in a day. Then the daily consumption in terms of units will be calculated as

(20 x 8) ÷ 1000 = 0.16 kWh = 0.16 unit

Similarly if a Ceiling fan is switched on for 12 hours then its daily consumption will be as follows

(75 x 12) ÷ 1000 = 0.9 kWh = 0.9 unit
